The winners of Eel River Valley Idol 2010

The Redwood Memorial Foundation hosted the fifth annual Eel River Valley Idol at the historic Winema Theater in Scotia on Aug. 7. The sold out crowd enjoyed the festivities and cheered on their favorite contestants.

Contestants competed in two categories for the honor of Eel River Valley Idol for 2010. Local judges Dr. James Anderson, Pam Cassady and Darin Goodale commented on the acts and MC, Don Brown moderated the event. Audience members voted for their favorite performers.

First place in the Adult Category was Shannel Tillman singing “My Immortal” with Redwood Memorial Hospital Dance Club taking second place with their “Thriller” dance performance. In the youth category, Madison Filsinger wowed the crowd with “Love Story” and Kylie Giovanoli took second with her touching rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The top two finalists in each category were awarded a trophy and cash prizes provided by Fortuna Rotary and Dr. Jack and Pam Bellah. In all there were 15 performances and the talented performers received certificates and flowers for their efforts.

Kicking off the event was a special tribute performance celebrating the 75 year anniversary of the Scotia Band with a trio of songs performed by members of the Scotia Band.

Prior to the Idol event, members of the Foundation Outreach Committee also worked at the Wildwood Days Street Fair and served spaghetti at the Wildwood Days event.

The Eel River Idol event was a fundraiser organized by the Redwood Memorial Foundation Outreach Committee and all proceeds from the event will be used to help purchase new digital mammography equipment for Redwood Memorial Hospital.
